Dick and Cat wanted to go camping. Dick asked Bonnie. Dick asked around, then somehow the word got out and it was a CAMPING TRIP.

Which he's okay with, really. He doesn't get much chance to hang around with other kids.

They pick a spot a good distance from the bar, near enough to the lake that washing and swimming can happen, not so close to the forest that demon bunnies are a severe threat, and set about pitching a camp for the weekend, or whenever they all get bored...

"Well, go see if you can dig him out, and maybe throw a party for your friends," Autor says, beaming.

"There you go," Autor says, losing another marshmallow to the fire. "Oh, shoot. You can throw a party here or there, and truly memorialize the sacrifices you all made."

"Yes, we can. And knowing them, get very, very drunk." He eyes the sad remains of Autor's marshmallow. "I wonder if the demon bunnies like burnt sugar."

"They probably like it better than I do," Autor says, flicking his charred, crispy marshmallow into the dirt. "Will you provide alcohol or will they bring their own?"

"Oh, I should think they'll bring their own. Except Enjolras, he doesn't go so much in for that."

[herr_bookman]

"Well, this should be a fun party regardless," Autor says, cheerfully affixing another marshmallow to his stick. "And if people get maudlin, well, you can deal with that, too."

"Comes with the day", Gavroche says with a nod. "And if anyone gets too maudlin, the others will mock them out of it."

All done with love.

"I'm jealous that you have such a tight-knit group of friends," Autor says, smiling a little. "But happy for you, too."

[street_sparrow]

"I was just the kid on the outskirts back then, they were the really close-knit ones", he says easily. "Except me and Courfeyrac. But we're not a closed group, even now."

[herr_bookman]

"I'll keep that in mind," Autor says, pulling his marshmallow back to inspect it before it burns. "I'm close to Joly and Bossuet, but I don't know the others well at all."

"It's a start", Gavroche says cheerfully. "The others will probably get roped into this theatre of yours, one way or another."

"Oh, yes, most definitely," Autor says, grinning. "I expect Joly will strongarm them into it. We've managed to clean up a room upstairs--well, it's more a cavern, really--but we've installed lights and a stereo system and a curtain."

"Caverns can make pretty good theatres. Great natural acoustics. Is there any other help you need with it?"

[herr_bookman]

"No, we're pretty much set up," Autor explains, happy to share the news. "Thank you, though. Now all we need is to actually pick out a play."

"Any thoughts about what kind you want to have for your first one?"

[herr_bookman]

"No, not really," Autor says, sighing. "I'd love to do Shakespeare, but we might not have enough people, and the language might be an issue for some of the more modern patrons. It's a challenge because I don't know how many actors we'll have available, so we need to pick something that can accommodate any number of people. But we have to pick the play before casting it, so--augh."

He burns his next marshmallow.

"Sorry, I should stop distracting you about that... maybe a series of small-cast plays? So if you only have a few people, you're okay, but if you get lots, there's still parts for them."

[herr_bookman]

"That might be a good idea," Autor says, cheering up as he lets the remaining marshmallow burn off. "I have a feeling we'll not have too many actors. Most of the 'volunteers' we've had--or, rather, people we've asked about it--have wanted to work on the sets, or costuming."

[street_sparrow]

"You might find some, but there don't seem to be that many - extrovert? - people here."

[herr_bookman]

"Extrovert?" Autor asks, tilting his head. He sets his skewer up with yet another marshmallow, determined to get it right. "What's an extrovert?"

[street_sparrow]

"The kind of person that'd be happy to stand up on a stage and perform in front of everybody", he says easily. "In this case."

[herr_bookman]

"I see," Autor says, toasting his marshmallow. "No, there's not too many people like that around the bar, as far as I can tell. Maybe I'm talking to the wrong people."

[street_sparrow]

"Have you tried putting up a poster? General recruitment ad type thing?"

[herr_bookman]

"No, but I should," Autor says, beaming. "That's a great idea, Gavroche, thank you. I think Joly and I were hoping to have the play picked out before we started recruiting."
