Dick and Cat wanted to go camping. Dick asked Bonnie. Dick asked around, then somehow the word got out and it was a CAMPING TRIP.

Which he's okay with, really. He doesn't get much chance to hang around with other kids.

They pick a spot a good distance from the bar, near enough to the lake that washing and swimming can happen, not so close to the forest that demon bunnies are a severe threat, and set about pitching a camp for the weekend, or whenever they all get bored...

Pitching Camp

Dick rather likes the patrol tents bar provided him with, because they're similar to the kind of tents he practically lived in at the circus. There's two - one per patrol, although anyone who wants to bring their own is probably welcome as well.

And then there's the camp gadgets to construct: washing up stands, bedding racks, clothes lines and so on.

So the tents are too big and heavy for a little person to lift up. But Fry is measuring where the pegs will go with a tapemeasure, and is lining them up ready.

Selina is trying to help, really. But see when she implied she'd been camping before, it was urban camping at best. That is to this is all new to her.

Patrol rotas

As suggested by Bonnie, someone's got to draw up cooking/cleaning/fetching wood/defense against demon bunnies rosters. That's where patrol leaders come in.

[One thread per patrol? Can also be used for patrol meetings like... picking a badge, choosing a second, idk.]

Patrol 2

Rae has drawn up a list of duties with blank spaces beside them where people can write their names. There's a surprising lot that goes into camping. Fetching wood, building and tending the fire, preparing food, cleaning up... But with everyone pitching in, no one task will put too much of a burden on one person. They're all in it together, helping make it work. Rae finds she likes the sentiment.

"Patrol, um, Two's roster's here for camp duties," she says, after all the tents are up and everyone has picked a spot to sleep. The girl is very aware that a lot of her patrol are taller and older than she is, but she's determined to do her best. "And you can vote for your preferred patrol badge here, too."

He kind of likes all the badges, hard to choose...

Dick is only a little taller and a little older than her, but he's very pleased with her as patrol leader. He's quick to write his name down under fire and preparing food, but plans to do a few more things as well.

"I still like the trilobite and the fire fish."

Like Rae, Autor has drawn up a list of duties for his patrol members to write their names on and commit to. "Patrol One here," he announces, standing a little ways away from her. "Let's pick out a badge!"

Dick didn't really know that any of this counted as CAMPING stuff, but when he told Alfred he was going camping with scouts at a magical bar, Alfred assured him all these things would happen.

Bonnie's not supervising per se (aside from Fry-watching) but she is on hand to test for badges or help if people need it.

Gyda is working on creating a raft. Having lived near the sea all her life, this seems especially important knowledge to have.

Unfortunately, she doesn't have much in way of axes to chop wood for logs, she she's having to make do with wooden planks and ropes, trying to see about getting each one to fit. Along with ropes, she also collects moss and other bits to make it water tight.

Selina is reading about the First Aid badge in the book, thinking it would the most useful back in Gotham. Of course, knot tying is pretty interesting also.

It is not a camping trip unless someone gets hit in the eye with a ball or stays hiding for at least 10 minutes after hide-and-seek has ended.

CAPTURE THE FLAG

Dick's done his homework on this - well, from a book that bar gave him. And he's got two flags on sticks that he also got from bar. One goes to each patrol leader.

"That area over there,with the forge to that rock,that's our territory. You guys get the greenhouse through to the playground. Campsite is out of bounds. We get five minutes to hide our flags and choose a tree or a rock to be a jail.

"When we've set up, first team to bring the opposite flag back to their base wins. If you get tagged in the opposing territory, you have to go to jail and you can't stop touching it until a team-mate tags you out."

Campfire's burning

As soon as the sun starts to get low, a space is cleared a little way away from the tents and the fire is set.

Time for foods, sing-songs and above all... ghost stories.

Bonnie, responding to a request from Fry, takes the opportunity to start off a round of Oh you'll never get to heaven.

Autor has marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, and skewers available for anyone who wants to participate in the time-honored tradition of s'more making. He himself is trying--and failing--to toast a marshmallow.

Dick has rigged up a pot hanger and is in the process of putting together a stew that will go around his petrol. there's a basket of bread from bar, which he's sure isn't cheating.

Rae can't sleep.

She had loved the ghost stories - scary stories have always been her favorites. But now, tucked into her sleeping bag, she can't help but be aware of every sound from outside the tent, how exposed they are without thick walls and locked doors and heavy wards between them and the night.

What if -

She'd heard that vampires sometimes came to Milliways...

"Psst, Dick. You awake?" She whispers.

All good things, and so on.

Just like every stop on a circus tour, camping trips have to come to an end at some point. And this means striking tents, dismantling gadgets, and making sure the fire is raked away.
