Camping

Dick and Cat wanted to go camping. Dick asked Bonnie. Dick asked around, then somehow the word got out and it was a CAMPING TRIP.

Which he's okay with, really. He doesn't get much chance to hang around with other kids.

They pick a spot a good distance from the bar, near enough to the lake that washing and swimming can happen, not so close to the forest that demon bunnies are a severe threat, and set about pitching a camp for the weekend, or whenever they all get bored...

"I won't tell anybody", he promises. "It's a bit too quiet out here for me anyway."

Rae ducks her head a little. "It's a different kind of noisy than I'm used to."

She's used to the sounds of the city, rather than the forest.

"I've never slept outside before. There's no wards."

There's never anything like silence in London. Even in the House of Arch.

"...would you feel better if there were?"

He can't make them. But maybe somebody can.

"Yeah, but it's not possible," she shakes her head. "It's the middle of the night, and there's no wardsmiths around and anyway there's too many of us and nothing permanent to put the wards on."

She has thought about this.

"I'll be fine." Though she may be leaning against him a bit.

He lets her lean all she wants.

"Well, two pairs of ears are better than one. We'll hear if anything gets close."

Rae nods, quiet.

"It's probably stupid to worry, anyway," she says, after a while, feeling guilty for keeping Gavroche up. "Milliways is pretty safe, right?"

"Pretty safe. But it's okay to be worried", he says gently. "I'll stay here with you as long as you want."

There's room for two smallish people to sleep there.

She manages a small smile. "Thank you."

"It was a fun day, though, wasn't it? Playing games and singing, and cooking over the fire?" she says, with a yawn.

Gavroche wraps his arms around her, aiming for a secure feeling.

"It was a really fun day", he agrees.
