Dick and Cat wanted to go camping. Dick asked Bonnie. Dick asked around, then somehow the word got out and it was a CAMPING TRIP.

Which he's okay with, really. He doesn't get much chance to hang around with other kids.

They pick a spot a good distance from the bar, near enough to the lake that washing and swimming can happen, not so close to the forest that demon bunnies are a severe threat, and set about pitching a camp for the weekend, or whenever they all get bored...

"That's stupid." Fry says. "If you don't know how to do it you should ask or go and read some instructions so it doesn't fall on us."

He's only seen it done once, and even he knows you don't bang the pegs in until the tent is being held upright.

"All right," Autor says, thoroughly chastened. "I'll go do that. You wouldn't happen to know how to put a tent up, would you? I'll find some instructions if not."

"I've watched. The pegs go in last." Fry says. "You have to lay out the canvas first without standing on it. Then you lay the poles on it, then two tall people pull the poles up and hold them while the others put the pegs in."

"Well, we'll lay the canvas out flat and put the poles in, but we'll have to find someone else to hold the poles with me," Autor says, setting his hammer and pegs down. He crosses to the canvas and starts spreading it out. "Here, you grab that end and we can spread it out."

Fry tries, but the canvas is quite heavy, so it takes him a little while.

"I'm sorry, Fry," Autor says, lifting the canvas a little more easily. "Is it too heavy for you?"

"It's hard." Fry says.

"I'm sorry I was mean."

"Don't worry about it," Autor says, waving that off. He straightens his side of the canvas, and then crosses around to help Fry with his. "We're all a little mean sometimes."

"It's scary that it might fall on me when I sleep."

"If we put it up correctly, it won't fall," Autor says, maneuvering the poles into place. "Don't worry, Fry. Tents can be very stable."

"If I can't sleep do I still get my badge?"

"I imagine so," Autor says, nodding. "Not sleeping shouldn't prevent you from earning a badge. But I do hope you can sleep, Fry. Sleep is important."

"I'm not good at sleeping."

Autor rests his hands on the canvas. "Are you not? What prevents you from sleeping?"

Shrug. "I usually sleep from ten until five or six."

"That's about seven or eight hours," Autor says, shaking his head. "That should be enough sleep for someone your age, I think. Right?"

"My dad says I'm supposed to sleep at least ten hours a night but I haven't done that since I was under one."

"Oh, well, he would know best, I suppose," Autor says, shrugging. "I wonder why you can't sleep that long, though. Maybe your body's just made that way."

"My mum doesn't sleep long either." Fry says. "But Dad says it's probably a sensory thing."

"Well, I hope you can get some sleep tonight at least," Autor says, shaking his head. "Sensory issues or no."

"What do I do if I can't?" Fry asks.

"I'm not sure," Autor admits, adjusting his glasses. "I suppose just try it for tonight, and if you really can't sleep, then you can catch up on the weekend?"

"I brought a book." Fry says.

"That was a good idea," Autor says, nodding. "You can always read a book. Let me know how you sleep tonight, if you can sleep at all."

"What time should I tell you?"
