Dick and Cat wanted to go camping. Dick asked Bonnie. Dick asked around, then somehow the word got out and it was a CAMPING TRIP.

Which he's okay with, really. He doesn't get much chance to hang around with other kids.

They pick a spot a good distance from the bar, near enough to the lake that washing and swimming can happen, not so close to the forest that demon bunnies are a severe threat, and set about pitching a camp for the weekend, or whenever they all get bored...

Dick didn't really know that any of this counted as CAMPING stuff, but when he told Alfred he was going camping with scouts at a magical bar, Alfred assured him all these things would happen.

Bonnie's not supervising per se (aside from Fry-watching) but she is on hand to test for badges or help if people need it.

Dick appears at her shoulder sometime in an afternoon, a little tired from a game but grinning and brimming with energy.

"Hi."

"Hi Dick, ready fer tent inspection?" Bonnie grins.

"Yeah," he says, and offers a pretty flimsy scout salute. "I think. All ready to go."

"All right, we're gonna go round the tents first, and I want you to tell me some ways you made sure the tents were up correctly."

Dick's first reaction is to tilt his head and give her a confused look. Like - how do you explain something you just know?

But when they get to the tent, he's demonstrating the tightness of the guys, and showing exactly how rigid the poles are. He points out the guy pegs ("Fry measured these out precisely") and cartwheels between them (Without even thinking that he might touch one of the ropes).

The sides are currently rolled for the day, but he points out the pegs that will peg them down at night.

"Not everyone'd done this before but I showed them how to drive a peg with a mallet and everyone picked it up really fast."

"Good job." Bonnie grins. "Certainly these all look nice and safe. Can you show me any gadgets you've helped with?"

"Oh, yeah."

Dick points, then leads the way over to the campfire.

"Does this pot holder count? I used it to make stew last night."

"Yep, that'll count nicely. So long as it didn't fall onto the fire."

Dick snorts. "Nah, it didn't."

"Have all the kids helped set up and take part?"

"Uh huh," Dick says, his grin spreading. Even the little ones helped pitch. Fry and Autor helped with the tents. Gyda and I made a raft earlier. Rae's organised our patrol, and everyone's had something to do."

"Good." Bonnie grins. "I think I spotted Cat around somewhere too."

Gyda is working on creating a raft. Having lived near the sea all her life, this seems especially important knowledge to have.

Unfortunately, she doesn't have much in way of axes to chop wood for logs, she she's having to make do with wooden planks and ropes, trying to see about getting each one to fit. Along with ropes, she also collects moss and other bits to make it water tight.

"Hey."

Dick comes bouncing over, fuelled by the energy of having a good time, and watches her for a few seconds.

"You need help?"

"Yes." She looked up from her work. The raft she was building was a fair sized one. "I need to get the boards steady enough to be tied, and that takes two people."

"Done."

Dick takes one easy cartwheel and lands next to the boards. "Shall I hold while you tie? Or the other way round?"

"How're you with making knots?" She could do either task, but it was a matter of finding which part he was better at. "You might do better at holding while I make the planks secure."

"I'm good with knots."

Not really a boast, but he knows he' better than most regular kids his age - kids who didn't grow up with their lives depending on knots and ropes and who don't regularly now tie up criminals and escape from various traps.

But- she's clearly not a Gotham middle schooler. So he comes over and crouches next to the planks to hold them. "You tie. It's your raft."

"Alright." She tried to set the boards so he'd have an idea on how to hold them. While she didn't spend as much time on boats as others in her village, she knew enough about knots to keep them secure. "Hold them like then and I'll get the ropes ready."

Dick's pretty good at doing what he's told, and learning how to do things quickly and with minimal instructions - you have to be when you work with Batman. So he crouches down over the planks, squatting across them, and holds them as he's told while watching her with the ropes.

"You've done this a lot at home?"

She carried a bundle over to where he was holding the planks, weaving them in between and around them. "Not a lot with rafts, but I learned how to repair boats, and then fish cages and nets." A lot of work with weaving and ropes.

"What about you?"

"Not boats," he says, watching her and moving out of her way and watching her again while he holds them.

"But like - tents and rigging and stuff. I can do ropes and knots and things."

Selina is reading about the First Aid badge in the book, thinking it would the most useful back in Gotham. Of course, knot tying is pretty interesting also.
