Haly's Circus: New York City!

 It's a quick stop between Metropolis and Gotham City. New York is what John Grayson calls a Red Pin town - big shows, and dangerous tricks, but it's smaller than Metropolis and is a warm up for the big shows in Gotham.

Dick waited until the punters were beginning to show up then grabbed a moment between rehearsals to run into the bar and collect his friends. So many people had said they hadn't been to a circus in too long, and that had to be fixed.

Also, he feels that if having access to a magic bar is going to do something, it might as well bring an audience to the circus.

After the performance

It's a while before Dick comes running out to meet people, having showered and changed back into his regular clothes.

"Hey guys!"

"Hello," X responds.

She is still not smiling, but only because her face really is not built for it.

"Your family is very impressive."

X means that. A lot.

"And well-trained."

She's not smiling, so Dick gives her a grin big enough for both of them.

And flips onto his hands.

"Thanks!"

"There are things you can show me?"

X mimics his flip, mostly because it seems the thing to do.

"Sometime."

More thoughtfully: "Yeah, I think so. Maybe. I never taught it before."

"I did not teach before Milliways."

For so many reasons.

"But I like it. Now."

Maybe Dick will, too!

[daringyoungman]

"What do you teach?"

It's possible dick is looking for trade here.

"Combat."

X's response is prompt.

"Hand-to-hand. I have several students. Now."

[daringyoungman]

"Oh."

Dick shifts onto one hand, grabs his ankle and stretches as he thinks.

He doesn't really have a use for combat, but it couldn't hurt.

"Alright," he says. "I'll teach you some things. But we'll need to get a trapeze."

"Bar will help."

Hey, she helped with training mats with Rachel!

"Or I can ask Trowa. He is from a circus, too."

A circus OF THE FUTURE.

X, meanwhile, tucks into a forward roll and comes up standing.

Maybe she'll stretch in a minute, too.

"Really?"

Dick follows suit, bouncing back onto his feet. "Who's Trowa?"

"He is a clown. And an acrobat."

Beat.

"He is good with lions, too."

X really likes the lions. It kind of shows.

[daringyoungman]

"Yeah?"

Dick glances over his shoulder, looking towards the back yard.

"I'd ask if you wanted to meet them, but they need quiet after a performance."

There's a lot of people around, and Almanzo is not very big. He soon finds himself lost in the crowd, and looking around for the others.

Dick realizes quickly that Almanzo is gone, and after a few minutes thinking, he shimmies up one of the poles holding up the circus bunting and sits on top, looking around.

Almanzo tries to weave through the crowds, nearly getting squashed by a couple of big men.

"Excuse me, where be..." he tries, but people just walk on past.

He's starting to worry how he'll get home...

Dick eventually sees him, but only when the the men in question part and he sees past them.

He puts his fingers in his mouth and whistles a shrill whistle.

"Hey, 'Manzo!"

Almanzo looks around, trying to spot him. He looks visibly relieved when he sees him up the pole, and runs over to him.

"I not seen so many people since the last county fair."

Dick drops down, pausing only because someone recognized him and is now thrusting a pen and a program towards him. He takes Almanzo's hand in his left, and hurriedly scribbles his name where indicated.

"Yeah but now I've got people's attention, we need to get away."

"You sure are famous." Almanzo says, taking the hand and following.

"We will be able to get home, won't we?"

Dick walks fast, ducking between two stalls and tugging Almanzo with him.

"Yeah," he says. "'Course. I just need to find you a door. You have fun?"

[wild_colts]

Almanzo nods.

"Father said I couldn't come." he says, sheepishly. "So if you meet him don't tell him, please?"

[daringyoungman]

"Don't worry."

Dick gives him a broad wink. "Your secret's safe with me."

[wild_colts]

"He called me a liar. Do you tell your parents about here?"

[daringyoungman]

"Ha, no."

He doesn't see a problem with that. "They wouldn't want me hanging out with non-circus folks."
